When you make a pledge, you help us plan for the year. You can make your pledge through either Network for Good or through Thrivent, whicheve works best for you. By the way, does your employer match your gifts to non-profits? If so, your pledge or one-time donation will have more "bang for the buck" so to speak.

You Can Donate Stock, Too

We gratefully accept gifts of securities, including donated shares of publicly and privately held corporations, stock options and shares of mutual funds.

A gift of appreciated stock may have some surprising benefits for you and for Faithful Fools. Here are two of those possible benefits:

  • You may avoid paying any capital gains tax on the increase in value of the stock.

  • You may receive an income tax charitable deduction for the full fair market value of the stock at the time of the gift.

Here are Two More Ways to Give

Give from Your IRA (Individual Retirement Account)

If you are aged 70 ½ years or older and have an IRA, you're taking your "required minimum distribution" every year and paying taxes on it. You can distribute those funds directly to Faithful Fools as an IRA Charitable Rollover otherwise known as a Qualified Charitable Distribution. By doing so, you satisfy your required minimum distributions while you are supporting the work of Faithful Fools. These distributions are not recognized as income, so Faithful Fools will receive the full amount of your transfer and you won't be taxed either.

That's a benefit for our community and for you. Not a bad idea, right?

A Gift from Your

Will or Trust

Making a gift in your will or living trust is one way for you to support Faithful Fools call to a life of presence long into the future.

Past gifts from Fools who remembered us in their estate planning helped to make sure we have the resources to be a steady and trustworthy presence in the Tenderloin.

These kinds of gifts allow us to do one time investments in things like solar panels, paying off our last mortgage, and building our community's capacity through hiring and training.

You can name a specific amount or a percentage, and in either case, we will be most grateful for you as we continue to respond to our calling to acknowledge each human's incredible worth.

WE HAVE WHAT WE NEED BEFORE IT IS ASKED OF US

Faithful Fools is a community.  We are often called upon to be the "space in-between." We are there when other agencies can't be. Sometimes it takes too much time to arrange for a taxi voucher to get to an appointment, so we provide a ride.  Providing extra dollars for an extraordinary expense  sometimes doesn't fit within a traditional non-profit's budget. That might be paying for the cremation of someone whose family is struggling with medical expenses or it might be paying for a background check in order to get a job. That's when we step in. We maintain the human resources to accompany people when needed and we maintain a small assistance budget to help with the expenses that can make the difference between being housed and being homeless.

Operating expenses like utilities and salaries are often not covered by grants, so we depend upon donations for the bulk of our budget. The majority of our donors give a few hundred dollars a year (some  give $10 or $15 a month) and it all makes a difference.

When you are generous, we can be generous too. We live by the adage "We have what we need before it is asked of us." That means we have the time when someone needs to talk and we have those extra dollars for a pair of shoes.
